Happy birthday Loretta!

Apr 14, 1935: Country legend Loretta Lynn is born in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky. To celebrate I had to find another great classic tune that didn’t involve the coal mines.

This day in history is a morbid one.

Kurt Cobain Dark Eyes Black and White Fabric Poster April 8, 1994, rock star Kurt Cobain was found dead in his home outside Seattle, Washington, with fresh injection marks in both arms and a fatal wound to the head from the 20-gauge shotgun found between his knees. But that’s not the only music celebrity to take his own life on this date. In 1983 Danny Rapp of Danny and the Juniors fame was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was 41.

Jim, meet the people. People, meet Jim’s willie.

Doors Jim Morrison White T-ShirtMarch 23, 1969 – “Dear Mike,” wrote the recently inaugurated President Nixon to Miami-area teenager Mike Levesque in a letter dated March 26, 1969, “I was extremely interested to learn about the admirable initiative undertaken by you and 30,000 other young people at the Miami Teen-age Rally for Decency held last Sunday.” The event of which Nixon spoke was organized in response to an incident at a Doors concert some three weeks earlier, when a drunk, combative and sometimes barely coherent Jim Morrison allegedly exposed himself to the crowd at Miami’s Dinner Key Auditorium. The alleged exposure, whether it took place or not, created serious legal problems for Morrison. It also created an opportunity for socially conservative Floridians and their celebrity supporters to speak out against the counterculture at the massive “Rally for Decency” held at Miami’s Orange Bowl on March 23, 1969.

The banks would be reopening the next day, Roosevelt said, and he thanked the public for their “fortitude and good temper” during the “banking holiday.”

Fans waited outside in a scene reminiscent of Beatlemania of the 1960s. Crowds screamed as McCartney swept through the gates in his chauffeur-driven limousine and he answered with a thumbs-up.
