So it’s January 12, 2019. Why not? Stranger things have happened.

Authors Note: This post is the accompaniment to this PODCAST

I want you to think about this. Let’s say you woke up and it was January 12th, 2019. The events of the past two+ years, haven’t occurred. What would be different for you?

That’s the question I’m posing to myself and challenging you with on this episode of the podcast.

My “bucket list” universe and some of its merch.

Quick housekeeping notes: the name change and the theme song. Also, shop or drop a tip. It’s appreciated. If you’d like to hire me for consulting or production services reach me at jaksocial@outlook.com

For me I was burned out but still searching for hope. But, I did get sick with a sinus infection that impacted the right side of my head. My ear and jaw were in excruciating pain for days. So much so the best I could do for it was sleep. So I did. Little did I realize I was getting rested up for what was to come for a new adventure and change of scenery where I ended up selling big boy clothes. More on that later….

  • For a decade I was screaming from the rooftops about the NEED to support your local media. In fairness, they needed to be supporting you too with useful information and entertainment.
  • I went down many a wrong paths not out of direct and intentional malice but worse: indifference. By 2019 I had done enough and seen enough that I allowed my cynicism to overtake my positivity and in many cases common sense.
  • So now what? For two years I’ve been in an endless circle of self doubt and intentionally searching for a way out of that but doing it all wrong. I was aware of myself and actions but not as clear in my purpose. I was overthinking and complicating it all.

Moral of the story: When things seem impossible and at their worst NOW go back in your mind to a time you feel things were “better, good, great “ etc, and ask yourself “What was different then?” “What did I do or not do since?” “What’s the regrets?” “How can I right the ship NOW?”

The biggest take away? Do not wait for anything on your “bucket list”… get on it NOW!

Now, Go Play!

How does the champ prepare for the main event? A big bowl of MegO’s cereal of course!

Recently I received a really cool gift from a buddy of mine; the ZLC Collectibles exclusive Rocky Balboa “training variant”. It’s a fun figure with sweat suit outfit, black beanie and shoes and athletic taped hands.

Overall it’s a nice and solid Mego action figure but the greatest part about it to me is the fact that it’s an exclusively produced figure. It’s nice to see a company that obviously loves the brand and product enough to go all in and working a deal like this. Real teeth in the game. As such I hope you consider ordering one today.

Another thing I really like about this figure is that it gave me the opportunity to put to some kind of use to an idea I turned into reality a couple months back.

One October morning I challenged myself to do something for the the sake of doing something fun and funny graphic wise. What popped into my head was a parody cereal box. Long story short, I have a real appreciation for the art that goes into cereal boxes. If you think about it, the makers put a lot of thought into adding value to that packaging. The old school days of a “prize inside” was great but it was also cool to be able to spend breakfast time reading the box.

With that top of mind I decided to apply my general love and inspiration that comes from the Mego style toy to this project. What you see here is the final culmination of that. Silly and kind of pointless in general, my efforts popped into a practical use when I got the Rocky. So now I share with you the pics as well as a version to print and make for yourself.

Right now you can finish your day just like the Italian Stallion starts his, with a big ole bowl of MegO’s cereal and imagination.

Now, go play!

P.S. Here’s another fun little project I’m working on you might want to take a look at… we’ll, so long as you’re not scared of being “red-pilled” 😉

How y’all doing tonight?

Been a minute since I posted so I thought I’d drop a quick note about my most recent pick up. Loved this flick since it was first released all those years ago. And I guess I didn’t really heed the warnings.

Walmart may be evil but they suckered me in again!

I understand there is a black and white chase figure available but 1. I’m not dropping another $9 for a Pop and 2. That’s what filters are for anyway 🙂

I highly recommend the photo editing app Pixlr. I use it for pretty much all photos on the site over the last 5 or 6 years. Great on Android and iPhone.

And to prove the point on Pixlr, I slapped this one together as fast as Roddy can run out of chewing gum.

You can call me crazy… but only if you aren’t paying attention.

Keep your eyes on the sky and off the television and Facebook kids. Your soul will thank you for it.

Now, Go Play!

He’s basic, he’s black and let me say he’s bad @$$! (Shut yo mouth!)

Image6The 12 inch Darth Vader from Hasbro is one bad, straight armed dude! Being that I’m a retro kind of guy this figure really POP’s for me. No frills just a Darth Vader toy to be played with. The simplicity in the design (7 points of articulation) in my opinion lead to three strong points for me:

1. Durability – less parts = less potential for breakage,

ARTICULATION

2. Price Point – a much more reasonable MSRP than most other toy fare on the racks these days and the most important one is point

pricepoint

3. Imagination – Sure it can be frustrating that the Dark Lord of the Sith can’t bend at the knees or elbows but that doesn’t take away from the overall fun and play-ability of the toy. You have to use your imagination.

Image1

Image5With the price point I am admittedly more forgiving on some of the details in design. Some things such as the molded plastic tunic looks clunky as part of the legs and the cloth cape could stand to be wider and cover the shoulders. Neither however are a deal breaker for me.

Image8The packaging is also impressive to me. Not so much in its graphics but in the boxes design. It’s one large sheet of cardboard that is folded. Simple and efficient. This can lead to damaging the package as far as collectors may note but at it’s core this is a toy to be played with. If you want a high end collectible this is not the toy for you. But if you want a toy that is meant to be just that then here you go.

Image4In the end I call this one a win. Mind you I’m not a big fan of the other selections from this line (Anakin, Obi Wan and a Clone Trooper) but that’s just me. If they released more of the original characters in this format I would pick them up though. Also to note, for me this is a very nice alternative to the Jumbo Vintage figures by Gentle Giant. I do like those and would like to pick up a Lando Calrissian as a novelty item to add to my collection but the price point is a killer for me in regards to collecting them all.

One final point that I like about this particular figure and line is that he and his other Star Wars Universe pals can play in scale with heroes from the Marvel Universe. The Titan Series featuring Thor, Captain America, Wolverine, Spider Man, Iron Man and a big honkin’ Hulk all feature the same limitations in design but who cares? They are in scale toys from various licenses and they match, just like my beloved Mego’s of old and the new Re-Mego’s from Bif Bang Pow and Figures Toy Company.

Maybe it’s OCD but I’ve always liked things to match. Even as a kid the style difference between Kenner’s Star Wars and Hasbro’s G.I. Joe Real American Hero figures may have been 3 & ¾ but were night and day in their make up. As far as the debate over the play-ability and which is better of those all I can say to that is… what style is the hottest pre sale item around? That’s right the Retro Kenner, baby!

Now Jules and Vader can team up for the most bad ass Blaxploitation flick in the history of awesome! Say “You don’t know the power of the dark side” again, mo$&*@%$^! I dare you, I double dog dare you mo$&*@%$^!”

Dark Side Pimps

Now, Go Play! (and May the Force be with You!)

Daily Update 02/27/14

Daily UPDATEdownload (1)What a day. A good day for sure but a long one. While my to do list found it self with far more “to’s” left over, it’s all good. The biggest and most important thing I did accomplish today was helping Jay Piscopo continue to spread the word on the long awaited Sea Ghost action figure with my wife’s pals who are HUGE sea life (Shark) advocates.  I hope everyone catches on to this fantastic figure but equally as important are the stories that Jay has from this fantastic undersea world. Seriously, go check it out…. I’ll be back tomorrow. I need a nap.

Now, Go Dream!

Pop culture notes

022614dukesThe 8 inch Dukes of Hazzard Toys are shipping from Figures Toy Company…. This one made me a little giddy. I’m not terribly impressed with the Luke and Boss sculpts versus the original Mego but the Bo looks so much better and for the first time ever we get Roscoe P. Coltrain!

New to the Toy Box

ebayOrdered and downloaded Scott Schiaffo’s “Music for film: ‘The Shoestring Serenade’” – Really digging  a lot of the tracks. “Pinching Alfred” is perfect for a project I’ve had in mind for a long time. If you are a film or video maker you would do well in giving the album’s sample a listen. While it’s normally easier to work with custom created music for a project, building a library of stock music is never a bad idea especially when it’s GOOD production music. PLUS you might be surprised what the music inspires in you. Full review coming soon to the Toy Box and Amazon.

S-Type body giveaway contest –

S-Type GiveawayDon’t forget gang the contest ends March 8th 11:59PM CST… do something to make this bad boy not nekkid.

Phase 3 Television Show – After looking at the camera, light and sound test it is quite obvious; your old buddy Jimbo needs to break some habits and get away from being a Jumbo.

And that’s a wrap for today. Got to get going. My father in law is buying dinner and so the new and improved Jimbo on a diet can wake up fresh in the morning.  Thanks for checking in!

Cutest Little Star Trek toys EVER!

QMSTR0033lgQMSTR0034lg QMSTR0035lg

Kahn would have been hard pressed to be an ass to these cute little buggers. I had seen these a couple weeks ago and couldn’t help but giggle. Now that they’re on sale for 35% off MSRP I’m finding it difficult to resist the urge to bring ’em home and just squeeze their cute little Q-Pop Vinyl cheeks.

Perhaps this could be the stylized way for Paramount to relaunch the Star Trek Franchise to a younger generation a la Teen Titans Go!  Hmmmmmmm…… Somebody get Art Baltazar and Franco on the horn!

Now, Boldly Go Play!
