Bif Bang Pow KISS Love Gun 3&3/4 Look 2 Loose and Up Close

This second look at the Series 1 Love Gun era KISS retro action figures is pretty unflinching in some flaws, with the main one being that the Paul / Star Child I have has one leg that’s shorter than the other making it a bear to get him to stand without a stand. Otherwise the set is a lot of fun and I easily recommend them.

Six Million Dollars? Not today, baby!

It’s the big super Six Million Dollar Man sale day at Entertainment Earth and no better time to round out or double up on your Bif Bang Pow, Re-Mego style action figures. Seriously Steve and Bigfoot for $27? Oscar and a Fembot for $31? Dr. Rudy Wells for $20 and Steve pimpin’ his ‘tache and in khakis no less,for only $14? Daily Update 03/13/14

Boy has it been busy so please forgive me for my in and out lately. It’s been a really productive time though. Here’s a quick run down:

standbyDid a lot of tests for the internet broadcast show yesterday. Many thanks to Gar Ghoul for the tip on a video capture device. It was a huge help and most certainly the hub that everything is centered around. Also special thanks to Ben and Tom for bearing with me and being my eyes and ears as I pushed buttons and flipped switches. It’s coming together nicely and once I perfect my method I’ll share the process with all of you potential broadcasters out there.

S Type Winner ZachOn the S-Type body giveaway I am so tickled to have received pictures of our young winner and an example of his “Multi Color Man”. The future of the 8 inch format rests in his imagination. Thank you so much for playing and sharing Zach!

question-markThe review front finds a pair of fellows that most certainly took me back to my childhood. Being a slave to the tease aspect of things I won’t tell you who or what they are but I will say the Force is most certainly with them.

shat tzThe biggest thing on the toy front that really knocked my socks off occurred yesterday when it was officially announced the partnership between Bif Bang Pow and ZICA Toys. My two favorite toy makers have partnered up to bring us all into the Twilight Zone. Love these figures!

What a year for 8 inch Mego style action figures! Between the Figures Toy Company reproductions, the full lineup from the Big Bang Theory and the customizing possibilities with the S-Type body I only thought I was going to have to get a third job to pay for my hobby. Well I guess I gotta start looking for the fourth job now thanks to Bif Bang Pow and EMCE toys…

Flash Gordon!

Over this past weekend I got pulled into a few different documentaries about Queen and Freddy Mercury and just now had a Flash in regards to a toy tie in I had totally forgotten about. The Flash Gordon figures from Bif Bang Pow.  Strange how my pop culture mind works in waves like this but what are you gonna do.

BBP02101AAlgAnyway I went looking at Entertainment Earth to see if the figures were still available and yes they are and are actually on sale this week. Flash and Ming… I never was a huge fan of the film but something about the title track that Queen created still makes me want to give it another shot

Plus I remember how not too long ago the star of the film Sam Jones did a cameo reprising his role in the film TED. While not a big fan of the film itself I do appreciate how Mr. Jones was cool enough to play along.

That’s just aces in my book! Made me also wonder about his co star Max Von Sydow who played Ming and has also been given the 8 inch Retro treatment. Looks that Mr. Sydow has stayed pretty busy over the decades since he was a pain in Flash’s golden locks. Didn’t realize he was also a pain in the Ghostbusters Proton Packs as the voice of Vigo in Ghostbusters II as well as in the video game that came out in 2009.  Again just a random ramble but thought I’d share.

Looking back and forward at the Venture Bros.

Dear Reader I present to you the coolest Re-Mego yet!
At one time Henchman 24 knocked my socks off, the options have only gotten better and better so the top spot is always changing!

While I’m on a pretty hardcore Sheldon Cooper / Big Bang Theory kick at the moment some of you may recall my appreciation for the Venture Bros. line of 8 inch Classic style of action figures. And as some of you may recall that appreciation of the fun and fantastic show came after the discovery of their Mego style action figures from Bif Bang Pow.

This still impresses me; the fact that the merchandise was so so cool I couldn’t help but get lured in. Well played BBP, well played. I really enjoyed talking up these figures in the past and Dr. Orpheus is still my absolute favorite of the line.

Sadly I had to sell off the majority of my collection last year but 2014 is looking to be much better and brighter. I hope the same is true in your situation whatever it may be. If that is the case do yourself a favor and check out the sale. There are a lot of really good deals on some really GREAT collectibles and toys from BBP.

The 1st Lip Lock Louder than the Big Bang!

What seemed preposterous, turned into a very beautiful and touching television moment that IMO is just as memorable as Lucy having the baby… Samantha having the baby… and even Wilma Flintstone having the baby. It was so great it didn’t need a baby. No Bazinga.

How hot was this episode? This Thursday (February 6, 2014) the kiss heard round the world garnered a 15 share for CBS in the 7PM (CST) time slot. If not for those pesky Winter Olympics kicking off I believe it is totally possible that the hit show would have picked up an additional 8 share easy. Still, 17 Million viewers felt this monumental moment where Sheldon not only instigates the kiss with Amy Farrah Fowler, for the first time in the brainy couples relationship, Sheldon liked it!

Toy Hunter with Vinny: So why all the hubbub, bub?

For those of you who are following the Toy Box on Facebook (or are on my own personal page) I’m pretty sure I drove you nuts all day yesterday with my never ending posting and reposting about my pal Vinny and the new episode of Toy Hunter that he was going to be on. I apologize for being a pest.  However I don’t apologize for being excited for a friend to the point of being a spammer.

toyhunterYou may have asked and are still wondering; “Sweet lord, Jim why damage your pseudo-reputation in the blog-o-sphere? You got a stake in the show?” The simple answer is: “No”. I have absolutely no connections to either the Toy Hunter show or the Travel Channel. But what I do have is a cyber friendship with Mego Museum member Vinny0026 or as the rest of the less cool world knows him as Vincent Carnabuci.

“But you said he was your ‘pal’ ?!? So you mean to tell me you bugged me to death over a guy you don’ even really know? “. Sorta. I did and I do AND I’ll keep on doing it. Why? Lots of reasons, here’s 3:

1. I have learned over the years that real friendships do develop over the internet. Especially in particular in niche circles such as the forum over at the Mego Museum.

2. When you have a friend ‘do good’ don’t you want to join in the celebration? Of course you do. This is the “good news” type of story that people say they want to see on their evening news casts. Since “they” don’t tell those stories enough, I will and you should.

3. Vinny is a great guy with an impressive collection and some really neat custom pieces and he was getting to share and showcase them with a national television audience. Tell me you wouldn’t do the same for your car collector club, sewing circle or high school reunion pics.

toy-hunter-dmcPlus for those of you who did join me and all the other Mego fans and friends of Vinny, wasn’t it cool to see Darryl McDaniels of Run-DMC fame loose his mind over the toys? Being a fan of Run DMC I enjoyed that a lot. He “gets it.” Take just a moment and reconnect with your childhood toys and you may just find that innocent, untainted version of you. In turn you’ll smile a lot more and stress out a little less.

What I appreciated even more was learning about D’s camp for foster kids. I always thought of him as a genuinely nice guy and now having learned about Camp Felix and the Felix Organization I really love this fellow.

The kicker here is that without Vinny’s toy collection being featured on the show and D wanting to show today’s kids (and adults) the magic of these “old toys”, odds are I never would have heard or learned about the Felix Organization and all the good they do. And you dear reader probably wouldn’t have either. Plus you wouldn’t have seen the incredible collection that my pal Vinny has amassed over the years.

See? The hubbub was totally worth all of that and more.
